New Age Piano Playing

Today I heard Trevor playing the piano, so I went downstairs to compliment his music and found him standing on the piano bench, playing with one hand while eating a pancake with the other, all while wearing just a diaper and socks. What can I say, he's got talent and class.

Binkies Go Bye-bye

On Saturday, after spending the night with Grandpa & Granny Carmen, Trevor refused to take a nap. Why? Because he had bitten a hole in the binky I sent with him and Carmen did what I would have done and threw it away. This did NOT make Trevor happy. Finally after a very long temper tantrum the exhaustion won and he fell asleep.

The binky that Carmen threw away was the last one. We got 8 or so binkies when Trevor was born and I told myself that I wouldn't buy anymore and that when they were gone there would be no more.

After that first huge fight on Saturday over not getting a binky Trevor hasn't once cried or complained for it and so we are officially a binkie-free house. I am so proud of my big boy!

But even as we say goodbye to the binkies I can't help but feel a little nostalgic as I remember those special binkies that Trevor has loved and lost, including his first ever binky that kept him company under the lights at the hospital.
And binkies that helped a tired mommy and baby get some much needed sleep.

Olivia & Stuart's Wedding Cake

Here is the story about and pictures of my latest cake: Olivia & Stuart's Wedding Cake.

This was a very stressful cake to make, because let's face it no one wants to ruin a bride's life by ruining her wedding cake. With only 4 hours and 15 minutes until the reception started, I had to make an emergency phone call to my sister-in-law, Deborah in Utah just for moral support and to hear her tell me that I could make this cake and that it would be beautiful. Thanks for the pep talk Deborah!!

An hour and a half after the pep talk I had covered all three cakes, cleaned up the powdered sugar disaster that was my kitchen and I was headed to the reception. When I got there I was so excited to stack the cakes and get started decorating that I forgot to put the dowels in, so I had to disassemble the cake, take a deep breath and start over.

Actually decorating the cake was a joy and a pleasure. The bride's niece loves to watch cake decorating shows on TV and she said that my cake was the best she has ever seen in real life. (So cute!) She even helped me which was awesome.

You should know that I did not bake the cakes, the wonderful guys at Creme de la Creme did, so I am positive the cake tastes even yummier than it looks. Also, I wish I could take credit for the roses on top of the cake, but I can't. Wilton made them, I just made the leaves.

So without further ado, here is the cake.

Handsome Boy, Grouchy Face

For those who are readers of this blog, but have not yet met Trevor in person I need to set the record straight. The pictures I post of Trevor are very misleading. Most people never get to witness a first hand smile from Trevor, let alone his classic "cheesy grin". They usually get this instead...

We call it "Stink Eye"

Fruits of our Labors

One of Trevor favorite past times is enjoying the fruits of our labors straight from the garden. Technically, these are yellow peppers that are supposed to stay on the vine until they turn a nice golden color. Trevor didn't care what color it was; he plucked it right off the vine and took a bite!
