Party in Our Backyard

With a new baby on the way and nice weather hopefully around the corner, we decided to purchase a outdoor toy for the backyard so that Trevor can have fun without a trip to the park, because let's face it, we probably aren't going to make it to the park as much this year.

We finally found one on craigslist that was just the size we wanted and in our price range.  We picked it up on Saturday, but due to the weather today was the first day Trevor actually got to play on it.

Conversations with Trevor

Here are some funny conversations I have had with Trevor recently.

Trevor:  Want some fruit cup.
Me:  How about some apples?
Trevor:  No.
Me:  How about some... pretzels?
Trevor:  No.
Me:  How about some... ummm...yogurt?
Trevor:  How about some fruit cup.

Me:  Hey Darren, what do you want for dinner?
Darren:  I don't know...How about grilled cheese and tomato soup?
Trevor (as he comes running in from the other room):  Cheese?  Want some cheese!  Oh yeah, like cheese!
 
And, last week while Trevor was in time out I heard him speak his longest sentence ever.  He said, "Mommy put in time out because throw food."  And he was right, I did.

Gospel Wisdom from my Toddler

Earlier in the week Trevor and I were talking about baby Austin and Trevor said, "Austin come heaven soon and live at our house."  It made me so happy that Trevor pays attention when I tell him about where Austin is now.

On Monday Darren and I held our first official Family Home Evening with Trevor.  For his birthday my mother-in-law bought him the Nursery Manual and we used that to have an FHE about reverence during the sacrament.
After calling on Mommy to say the opening prayer I was pleased with how much he could tell me.  Obviously, Sister Yan and Sister Miller do a great job teaching the kids in nursery.  Here were the highlights:
 - "Sit on bench, not floor"
 - "Eat bread and water"
 - "Think Jesus Christ"
 - "No talking, only quiet"

After the lesson Trevor wanted to sing "Frowny Face Song" and he delighted us with his frowny face, smiley face, and the occasional word to the song, "If You Chance to Meet a Frown".  Then he filled in the "sunbeams" as I sang "Jesus Wants me for a Sunbeam".  It was a delightful experience and one I hope we can have every week.

Then today while I was in the shower he built something out of his MegaBlocks and when I asked what it was he proudly exclaimed, "Made a temple!!"

It's The Pits

**Caution: Major pregnant lady whinning ahead.  I really try not to use my blog as a rant and rave session, but today I just need some sympathy**

Have you ever felt so sick and miserable you just wanted to cry?

I used to think that the worst thing in the world was being sick while at the same time having a sick kid, but I have changed my mind.  The worst, most inhumane thing in the world is being 8 months pregnant, sick with a cold and having your child feel just fine.  It's inhumane for the mom who wants to lay in bed and sleep off the fog in her head she can do nothing about and for the toddler who sees that it is perfect park weather and can't understand why mom won't take him outside to play.

Poor Trevor has been such a good kid today as I have literally laid on the couch all day long sneezing, coughing, and blowing my nose.  Just last week I was commenting that I have been so lucky this pregnancy and avoided getting sick despite the numerous colds Trevor has had all winter.  This time it couldn't be avoided I think because I haven't been sleeping well partially due to the fact that I am really pregnant and uncomfortable and partially due to the fact that my husband thinks my belly is cute and he wants to snuggle all night long, which is really sweet, but annoying.

So here's to hoping that I can get some sleep tonight and wake up feeling a million times better.  Heaven knows my family needs a little more of my patience and my floors could use a good vacuuming too.

I Must Be Nesting

The nesting phase of my pregnancy has officially begun.  Today I...

• Packed my hospital bag
• Packed Trevor's overnight bag
• Packed the diaper bag
• Put the car seat in the car
• Refurbished a chalkboard for Trevor
  AND
• Replaced the burnt out tail lights in the trunk of my car

And this is only the beginning.  I am also working on some projects for the boy's bedrooms.  Once I finish I'll post pictures.

What I've Been Up To

It's been nearly a month since my last blog.  Here's what I've been up to (besides mentally and physically preparing to deliver a baby).

With the sunny days we have been having over the last month I have been out in the yard a lot working on different projects, trying to get as much done as I can before Austin comes.

My first project was to beef up my raspberry patch.  I found a great deal for raspberry canes on craigslist and I am delighted to have a bigger patch this year.  (When I told Trevor we were going to get more raspberries he was very disappointed when we got plants and not actual raspberries that he could eat.)

Then I tackled a project I have been wanting to do since we moved in.  I edged the east side of my lawn so now there is a clean, straight edge.  I also pulled the weeds on the neighbors side so that it would look nicer...it was service and selfishness.

Last summer I drove by a house that had cement rings around each of the trees in their yard and they planted nasturtiums inside the rings.  I thought it added such a wonderful splash of color to their yard and I logged it away in my head as something I wanted to do.  This year I did it and soon the trees in my yard will have bright blossoms around the base.  As soon as the nasturtiums bloom I will post another picture.

I also started some seeds indoors so that they will be ready to plant outside once winter decides to take a hike.

And through it all I have had an amazing little helper who loves to be outside helping me in the dirt.  Here is a video of him trying to use the shovel like Mommy does.

There is still lots to do outside so here's to hoping for more good weather!!
