DiBello Princess Castle Cake

I don't think that there are going to be very many pink/purple cakes in my future, so it was nice to have an excuse to make a princess castle cake for a cute three-year-old in our ward.

The parents loved the cherry cake with strawberry whipping cream filling, the older kids loved the rice cereal towers, and the birthday girl loved the fondant.  I call that a win-win-win situation.

Silva/Oberloh Laua'e Wedding/Reception Cake

Back in April we went to Hawaii for my best friends wedding.  Everything about the trip and the wedding was wonderful, except her wedding cake.  It fell apart in the car for the baker on the way to the reception and instead of it looking like this, like the bride wanted...

Fast forward to last Sunday when she had her reception here in Seattle.  I offered to remake her wedding cake for the reception celebration in an effort to make up for the baker's error in Hawaii.  It turned out better than even I expected that it would.  Per the bride's request, I made chocolate chiffon cake with cream filling and chantilly frosting.

 

Keeping the Zombies out

Trevor likes to play a computer game called Plants vs Zombies.  In the game you plants various plants on your lawn in an effort to keep the zombies from getting into your house and eating your brains.  I know it sounds gruesome, but it isn't as bad as it sounds.

In the game, there are things called Wall-nuts.  The zombies stop to eat them giving you extra time to kill them.  Trevor came to me the other day with a naked Mr. Potato Head and said that he would leave Potato Head by the front door so that if the zombies they will eat Potato Head and we can run away.  I think it is an great plan.

I can see the resemblance, can't you.

Newport/Peugh Pirate Wedding Cake

Once upon a time I dated a guy named Tyler.  It didn't work out for him and I, but it did work out for him and Trisha and on July 16th they got married on a pirate ship.  I was honored to be asked to make their wedding cake.

I was so excited (and nervous) to make this pirate ship cake that my sister-in-law, Deborah (who makes amazing cakes herself) came all the way from Utah to help me.  We made a white cake with lemon curd and fresh blueberry filling.  So yummy!!!

 

The details are what made this cake really special; from the jolly roger flag at the top of the mast, the lashed sails, or the detail on the back of the ship, it was more than what Tyler and Trisha thought possible.

 

When it came time to cut the cake, Tyler was all ready to go, but Trisha was hesitant to cut into the masterpiece.  Although it was a beautiful cake, it tasted too good not to cut into it.

Llama Riding

Trevor had a chance to visit the "Newport Family Farm" and ride one of their llamas.  It was fun.

 

Austin didn't get to ride a llama, but he wasn't sad.  He was in his most favorite spot of all, right next to mom in the Ergo.

Kent Cornicopia 5K

Darren ran in the local 5K and he placed first in his age category.  In the final push to the finish he passed someone who just so happened to be in his age group and he beat him by 1 second!

No doubt the key to his success was the warm-up lap that Trevor ran with him prior to the race.

Way to go Darren!!

4th of July Weekend

On Saturday the 2nd, we went to Jetty Island with friends in the ward.  There was lots of eating of sand (mostly by Austin) and lots of laughs with friends.  The daddies raced to the water and when it was the mommies turn we just dunked in the cold, cold water and did cartwheels on the beach.  It was such a fun day and something we look forward to every year.

 

On Sunday night the 3rd, we got our little boys out of bed at 9:30 and went over near Emerald Downs to watch their annual 3rd of July fireworks show.  The boys were a bit groggy at first, but they both really enjoyed the fireworks.

On the 4th we went to my Aunt Cheryll's house.  For 22 years the neighbor has organized a kiddie parade on their block.  They close off the street and let all the kids in the neighborhood ride their bikes in a parade.  Trevor loved being able to ride his bike with all the big kids!

Austin was happy as a clam sitting with Great-Grandma Kay to watch the parade.

After our kids were in bed late that night, Darren and I sat on the front lawn playing cards and watching our neighbors blow up thousands of dollars worth of amazing (and quite likely illegal) fireworks.  It was awesome!
